The Day I Started Fixing Myself and Started Listening Instead

There was a moment - I still remember it vividly - when I looked in the mirror and whispered, “I can’t do this anymore”.
Not because I didn’t want to heal. Not because I wasn’t trying hard enough. But because I was exhausted from treating myself like a project that needed fixing.

For years I devoured every self-help book, tried every morning routine, ticked off every “spiritual to-do list” I could find. I thought healing meant being perfect. Calm. Always grateful. Always glowing. Always okay.

But I wasn’t okay. I was tired. My nervous system was shot. And beneath all the effort was a woman holding her breath, waiting for permission to exhale.

That was the day I stopped fixing myself. I started listening instead.

The Turning Point
It was subtle at first - this shift. I began paying attention to my body, not just to my thoughts. I noticed how my stomach clenched when I pushed myself to be productive. How my chest tightened when I pretended to be fine. How much I longed to feel held - not by a person, but by myself.

So I gave myself permission to be human. I stopped asking “What’s wrong with me?” and I started asking, “What does my body need right now?”.

That’s where healing truly begins.

Listening instead of Fixing Looks Like:
- Sitting with your emotions instead of silencing them
- Letting yourself rest even when the laundry isn’t done
- Trusting your body’s signals instead of overriding them with guilt
- Using breath to be with yourself, not escape yourself
- releasing the pressure to always be “better” and choosing to be real.

A Note to the Woman Still Fixing Herself
If you are reading this and feel like healing is hard work - you are not broken. You don’t need another 5-step checklist to become worthy. You just need to slow down long enough to listen.

Your body already knows the way home. Your breath is your guide. And your softness is not weakness - its your power.
